General Information for 2024 Scholarships

• Scholarships are for our Scouting America Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor Courses
• Up to three scholarships will be available for 2024 courses.
• The amount of each scholarship will be $150.
• To support courses throughout the year, there are separate application deadlines:
  • April 1
  • July 1
  • September 1
• Applicants will be notified of their status within 2 weeks after the application deadlines.

• Applications may be submitted at any time, but they are only reviewed/considered immediately after each application deadline.
• Applicants are not required to register for their course before applying for scholarship.
• The scholarship is paid to the recipient on successful completion on the course.

Key Selection Criteria

• Financial Need
  Scholarships are for Scouting volunteers who could not otherwise afford to attend one of our Level 2 Instructor Courses.
• Dan's Legacy: Scouting America members passionate about teaching Leave No Trace to scouts & scouters.
  For instance:
  • Completed a Leave No Trace Trainer course and wants to be more involved.
  • Serving as Council Outdoor Ethics Advocate.
• Support for Outdoor Ethics in Scouting America outdoor programs:
  "A major goal for our Scouting America Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor courses is to graduate effective and active Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructors who will return to their home council and conduct the key Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor courses needed to support their unit, district and council outdoor programs."
• The scholarship committee tries to spread the benefits by chosing recipients from different courses and from different home councils.

Dan Howells Memorial Fund

The Dan Howells Memorial Fund was established to honor the memory of this passionate leader and his lifelong commitment to Leave No Trace and Scouting.
